We set out for Lubec, stopping at Chipman’s Wharf for lunch before continuing to West Quoddy Head Light and the Coast Guard Trail. As we walked the mile-long loop, fog drifted across the cliffs and the Bay of Fundy, revealing just enough of the rugged coastline to hint at what lay beyond.

The trail wound through coastal forest before opening onto dramatic overlooks marked with “Danger – High Bluff” signs. Brenda and Mara were far more adventurous than Dave and I, edging closer to the cliffs for photographs while we watched from a more comfortable distance. The sound of distant bells and foghorns carried across the water, giving the landscape a quiet, almost timeless feel.

Before heading home, we wandered through Lubec, stopped for ice cream, and made one last dash to Chipman’s Wharf just before closing to pick up lobster tails, seafood pie, lobster stew, and clam chowder for dinner.
