Memories and Distance, Volume 1

Maine · New River · Edisto · Curaçao · Utah

This volume brings together a series of earlier trips—Maine, the New River, Edisto, Curaçao, Utah—revisited years after they took place. What remains is not a complete record, but a mix of photographs, field notes, and memory.

At the time, these trips were defined by where we went and what we did. Over time, that has shifted. The larger experiences are still there, but they don’t always carry the weight. What stays instead are smaller things—details that seemed incidental in the moment but continue to surface later.

A photograph becomes a starting point. A way back in. From there, the rest follows—sometimes clearly, sometimes out of order, sometimes changed. The work moves between what can be seen and what has been reshaped, allowing both to exist without trying to resolve the differences.

This volume isn’t an attempt to reconstruct each trip as it happened. It’s a record of what endured, and how those moments continue to take on new meaning over time.
